Barnsley Town Centre Road Race – July 28th 2017

28th July sees the return of the Barnlsey Road Race and at the HUB we are pretty excited about it! There is going to be some exciting racing and also this year the community ride gives YOU the chance to ride the course before the pro’s do.

Barnsley HUB will be up at the Town Hall offering Dr Bike checks on the 28th, so if you haven’t ridden your bike for a while and feel inspired, our HUB mechanics will give it a check over to get you on the road*

The community ride is your chance to ride the course before the race starts and get an idea of what’s in store for the riders. It doesn’t matter what bike you have, every one is welcome to come along community ride. To take part riders need to register on the British Cycling Website. Registration is FREE and the event is part of British Cycling / HSBC ‘Let’s Ride’ programme.

The Community ride starts at 4.30pm and runs for an hour, then the racing begins!

Its going to be an exciting spectacle watching the riders battle it out on the closed roads of Barnsley town Centre. You can find information on the race timings to help you plan your visit, and also pick the best place to watch the action as it unfolds.

Barnsley Road Club and Barnsley Council are the team behind this exciting event and it would be great to see as many Barnsley residents enjoying the race and cheering the riders on. Barnsley Road Club is a friendly club that offers a selection of rides to suit keen cyclists and those new cyclists who want to start to increase their miles. The Tour de Yorkshire is coming to Barnsley

On Sunday April 30th some of Europe’s top riders will battle it out on stage 3 of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire. Barnsley features in the final stage 3, and will play a key role in deciding who will pull on the blue winners jersey.

As the route leaves the start in Bradford it will tackle some of Yorkshires testing climbs before reaching the Barnsley border, the peleton (main group of riders) will go through Penistone, Oxspring, Thurgoland and Wortley, before heading off to finish in Sheffield’s Fox Valley.

The Maserati Tour de Yorkshire ride offers 3 ride distances, 45, 75 and 100 km, with routes that are suitable for all abilities. To enter visit
